  1. tattered his shoes were worn and tattered.
  2. If he's in complete poverty, there's a possibility that he wouldn't have shoes.
  3. Read Dickens
  4. "his shoes were bits and peices of what used to be a fine pair of shoes. they were tattered and torn and didn't fit his feet"
  5. His shoes were tattered torn so much that they were barely even shoes anymore.
  6. They were more hole than shoe.
  7. How bout he wasnt even wearing shoes...his feet were mud caked.
  8. Look at it this way. If he's really that poor, he wouldn't have a pair of shoes to begin with. But, you could maybe say his shoes had more holes in them than a slice of Swiss cheese.
  9. use a simile like his shoes held out water like: insert something the opposite here (i was gonna say the titanic but its not a comedy routine)
  10. well depending on how poor this person is, they may not have shoes....secondly poor people don't necessarily have "holes" in there shoes, they could just be dirty or stained. you could say the when he walked the soles sounded like flip-flops because they where partly glued. there laces could be destroyed from stepping on them, he may not have laces at all....what if he's not wearing socks? sorry im not being very formal, but im not really trying to impress your teacher, just give YOU ideas
  11. I know a kid who's mum is a junkie - his shoes are always about 2 sizes too big - that looks pretty poor
  12. "His shoes would have been more than comfortable in the heat and humidity of July; unfortunately, it was December."
  13. Well, as someone said, he won't have shoes. If you don't like that... here is another one. He will be wearing worn out shoes of different sizes, colors... But I agree that shoes won't be a possibility if he is living in abject poverty.
  14. He was sad about his ratty shoes, until he met a boy that had no feet.
  15. The boy's shoes were so twisted and ratty that they weren't even recognizable.. only soles dangling from thin threads which barely held the footwear in place.
  16. well you could say they are a number of things likeee... tattered torn ragged dirty filthy holes in them scuffed up and you can talk about the heels, the toe, and the sole of the shoe. be sure to describe EVERY part to impress your teacher!
