Children's Shoes

My 8 yo boy goes through shoes fast---Is it him or the shoes ?

I got him some sneakers from Target (Cherokee brand) when school started 9/5 and they are already coming apart at the sole!! These were really cool shoes and fit well too, darn it...and I am trying to glue them back. Does anyone have better ideas for longer-lasting shoes? (It seemed like last year he went through them every other month) I would appreciate any imput. Thanks!!

  1. Try name brand. As in Air Force 1's (Nike's), Adidas, Vans, Audio.......something from the mall.
  2. you take the shoes and the receipt back to the store and ask for them to be replaced free of charge. I will take them back up to 2-3 months after purchase if the are wrecked. Name brands do not mean they will last longer but it may mean your kid will be beaten up for his shoes
  3. Hi sweetie, I am a mom of three boys and I have yet to find a brand of shoes that my guys could not destroy in 6 months or less. I tried all the expensive name brands as well as cheaper ones and have come to the conclusion that boys will be boys and shoes be destroyed!! Take comfort in the fact that your son is active and healthy enough to blow through footwear and not an inactive couch potato with perfect footwear. Love to you :)
  4. My 6 year old goes through shoes fast.... I was buying him DCs for a while but as fast as he goes throgh shoes I thought it wasnt worth all the money so I go to target or payless now... His shoes usually last 3-4 months though.... He would go through jeans fast too cuz he always got holes in the knees somehow. I think boys are just rough on clothes and shoes maybe...........
  5. there are some stores like zellers (canada) that if the child wears the shoes out before they out grow them, they will replace them. shop around in your area and see. Not worth spending 100 bucks on a pair of name brand shoes that he will grow out of in 6 months. wal mart and zellers have great shoes for kids for like 20/30 bucks, and zellers sells vans and good skate shoes that last forever.
  6. If you buy them at Sears, keep the receipt and take them back - they will replace them free in the same size only. That has helped me tremendously. Otherwise, I think it's both him and the shoes. Mine outwear about half of their shoes before they outgrow them. I can't afford $80 shoes for my kids so they wear CHerokee too, among other things.
  7. If his feet aren't growing out of the shoes, invest in a good shoe, even though it may cost more, like Nike or Rebok. They last well and have good support for growing feet.
  8. I would recommend you get some name brand shoes. Such as Nike or New Balance. THey are built very well, and can last a lot longer (they can last about a year) then the sneakers from Target. I know buying name brand shoes is much more costly then buying store brand shoes, but they are built a lot better, and most name brand shoes can handle roughness if your son is rough with the shoes. Also you might want to go to a regular shoe store such as Tradehome Shoes, and you may find a pair of shoes just for your son, and will fit well.
  9. Boys that age are usually pretty hard on their shoes (and everything else for that matter) but they grow out of them quickly. So shoes from target mighy be a good idea so they are not too expensive because they grow so quickly but they are also pretty cheaply made and will break like that quickly. I recommend a pair of Nike or Adidas or some New Balance, these shoes are longer lasting but more expensive. Go to Zappos.com they have some good deals there.
